Attari(PB), Mar 13: The body of Indian national Chamel Singh, who died in custody in Pakistan jail, was handed over to the government officials at Attari border here today. “We have the received the body of Chamel Singh,” the officials posted at the Attari border said.
Singh, a resident of Pargwal border belt of Jammu district, died under mysterious circumstances in Lakhpat Jail of Lahore in January this year. He had ignorantly crossed over to other side near his border hamlet in 2008.
The 40-year-old victim was allegedly thrashed to death by the wardens of the Pakistan prison, where he was serving a five-year imprisonment for illegall border crossing in 2008.
Earlier, few days back, Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Home Sajjad Kichloo had said the mortal remains of Singh was expected to arrive in few days as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had already taken the issue with Union Home Ministry.
