Islamabad, Oct 15: Pakistan's Election Commission temporarily suspended the membership of 154 federal and provincial lawmakers, including Interior Minister Rehman Malik and former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani's two sons, after they failed to submit details of their assets and liabilities.
The lawmakers suspended by the poll panel included members of the National Assembly or lower house of parliament, the Senate or upper house, the Punjab Assembly, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, the Sindh Assembly and the Balochistan Assembly.
The Election Commission said they could not function as lawmakers as they had failed to meet a deadline for submitting an annual report on their assets and liabilities as well as the assets and liabilities of their children and spouses.
This was required under the election laws, the panel said in a statement.
The lawmakers would cease to function until they submit details of the assets and liabilities.
