Islamabad: The outgoing chief of Pakistan's powerful spy agency ISI, Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam, today paid courtesy farewell call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
ISI chief Islam will retire on Friday. An official said the Prime Minister appreciated Islam's services for the country.
The government has appointed Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar as Islam's replacement.
Islam was appointed the Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence.
There were reports of Sharif's displeasure at his alleged role in the recent protests against his government.
The ISI is controlled by the army and it does not official comment on political issues or criticism leveled against it.
