Tokyo, March 11 : The Japanese government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has said no abnormal levels of radiation have been reported at four nuclear power plants in the quake-hit Tohoku region.
Tokyo-based NHK news agency said power companies have suspended the operation of the plants and are checking their safety.
Strong earthquake hit the northeastern region on Friday, generating a tsunami as high as 10 metres that hit the coast of Miyagi, officials said.
NHK public broadcaster showed footage of many submerged vehicles in Kamaishi, Iwate prefecture, as a 4.20-metre tsunami hit the city's coast.
