Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Health Minister S. Subramaniam on Friday said that no case of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has been reported in the country and there was no cause for the public to panic.

Subramaniam said that the ministry would make a public announcement if there was a case, Xinhua reported.

A Zimbabwean student, who was quarantined at a hospital in Sarawak, had tested negative for EVD, the ministry confirmed.

The minister also said the government had taken preventive measures particularly at entry points such as airports to monitor and examine visitors who had arrived from the affected countries.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Ebola has affected more than 5,500 people and has killed over 2,500 since its inception in West Africa.
