Know the guns that were used against US presidents

New Delhi: John F. Kennedy represented “the glow of idealism and promise” in American politics and now the nation prepares to commemorate his 50th death anniversary.On this occasion we compiled a list of weapons which were used against famous US presidents over a period of time:1. Derringer pistol (shot Lincoln) The term derringer is a generic misspelling of the last name of Henry Deringer, a famous 19th-century maker of small pocket pistols.It is the smallest usable handgun of a given caliber. It was used by John Wilkes Booth to shoot U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, while he was attending a performance at the Ford's Theater in Washington, DC.2. Colt 1911 model .45-caliber pistol (attempt to target Ford) It is regarded by many as the most successful semi-automatic pistol design of her time.It served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States armed forces from 1911 to 1985.It was designed by John Browning. It was used by Lynette ‘Squeaky' Fromme in an assassination attempt on US President Gerald R Ford. Fromme was sentenced under a law covering assaults on US presidents. She was released from prison in 2009.3. .22-calibre Rohm RG-14 revolver (shot at Reagan) This German made pistol is a continuation of the budget revolver line. This little .22 caliber revolver carries on the Rohm legacy of making cheap, low quality, piece of crap guns. In 1981 a man named John Hinckley Jr. used an RG14 in an attempt to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. The President spent two weeks in hospital due to internal injuries by bullet and survived the assassination.4. 6.5mm Carcano Model 91/38 carbine rifle (shot JFK)This rifle was used by Lee Harvey Oswald in the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas, to assassinate President John F. Kennedy. It was manufactured at the Royal Arms Factory in Terni, Italy, in 1940. Its serial number identified it as the single weapon of its type made with that number. The 4-power telescope, made by Ordnance Optics, had been attached to the rifle.5. .22 caliber Iver-Johnson Cadet revolver (shot Robert Kennedy) It is the gun that killed Robert F Kennedy. Robert F Kennedy was shot and killed by Sirhan Sirhan, a Christian Arab who disagreed with RFK's support for Israel. The small size of the .22 cartridge allows for a larger than normal cylinder capacity in the Cadet, it holds 8 rather than the usual 5 or 6 found in most revolvers. While the .22 is a small round it is by no means non-lethal and while the stopping power of the smaller bullet is not as great as a .38 or a 9mm round.
