Know how England functions without a written constitution

New Delhi: A written constitution is a formal document defining the nature of the constitutional settlement, the rules that govern the political system and the rights of citizens and governments in a codified form.Constitutions organise, distribute and regulate state power. They set out the structure of the state, the major state institutions, and the principles governing their relations with each other and with the state's citizens.India has the world's biggest constitution.It is based on the on the founding principle England as it ruled over India from 1858 to 1947.But you would be surprised to know that Britain itself have any no written constitution until date.What Britain has instead is an accumulation of various statutes, conventions, judicial decisions and treaties which collectively can be referred to as the British Constitution. Thus it defines its constitution as ‘uncodified' constitution rather unwritten. It has been suggested that the British Constitution can be summed up in eight words: What the Queen in Parliament enacts is law. This means that Parliament, using the power of the Crown, enacts law which no other body can challenge.According to Jack Straw (British Labor Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Blackburn since 1979), British Constitution exists in the hearts, minds, and habits as much as it does in law.Most of the Britons think that there is hardly any need to tamper with the systems because it has served Britain well for several centuries. They think there would be some practical problems over what to include and leave out. Any attempt to do so would be a logistical nightmare. Further, it could undermine the power of Parliament to scrutinize ministers on behalf of the public.Its strange but the major fact is Britain is developing well and its citizens are also happy with no written constitiution.
