Know about the Kingdom of little people in China, a miniature city for dwarfs

New Delhi: Chen Mingjing, a wealthy real estate investor came up with a unique idea of setting up a theme park exclusively for dwarfs where they could get respect which they don't get otherwise and are the victims of bullying.So, this miniature city was found in September, 2009 near Kunming, Yunan province of China.The park provides employment to hundreds of dwarfs which were unemployed before and faced atrocities of the world.The citizens of Dwarf City live in houses shaped like mushrooms, dress up in fairy tale outfits and make their living off of souvenirs and tourism.English lessons are given to the employees to train them to interact with tourists. The entrepreneur aims to make the park an attractive tourist destination. So far it mainly consists of a 230-foot-high performance hall that looks like the stump of a prehistoric tree, 33 Dr. Seuss-style cottages with crooked chimneys where kingdom residents pretend to live and specially-equipped dormitories where they actually reside. The park has been a boon for the disabled. The inhabitants perform fairy tales, dances, ballets for bread and butter. The performances often feature a "Dwarf King". The king, who is only 1 metre (3.3 ft) tall, often wears a gold silk cape and rides a three-wheeled motorcycle during performances. Critics say putting dwarfs on display is at best misguided and at worst immoral, a throwback to the times when freak shows pandered to people's morbid curiosity. However, the people living in the park are happy and say they enjoy being part of a community where everyone shares the same challenges, like the height of a sink.
