A rival jihadist group has this time turned the table around and given the ISIS the taste of their own medicine. Jaysh al Islam- a hardline Islamist rebel group battling against the savage Islamic state in Syria, has released a copycat execution video where ISIS militants are shown as victims.
Claimed to be a role reversal video, Jaysh al Islam has reportedly mimicked the now infamous style of Isis executions but here is the twist.
The video shows Jaysh al-Islam's fighters dressed in the orange jumpsuits (reserved for victims by Islamic state executioners) and 18 alleged members of rival Islamic State were dressed in black clothes ( reserved for the executioners of ISIS).
The video says they are being shot in revenge for the recent beheading of three Jaysh al-Islam fighters.
The 19 minute video shows the slaughter of all 18 men who are claimed as ISIS fighters of various ranks. They are led out in black clothes and masks, dragging ball-and-chains, before they are unmasked and shot dead at point-blank range.
This group claimed to be the mother state and made Takfir [accused of apostasy] on other Muslims, shed their blood and looted their properties and dignities,” says the fighter in the video.
“This is the penalty for what they have committed. We also call on their fellows to repent.”
The Saudi-backed group also accuses IS of being allied to Syria's government.
The video shows a Jaysh al-Islam fighter identifying ISIS as “khawarij”, meaning “those who have transgressed” – the same term that Hamas uses to refer to the group
But experts have termed the incident as another jihadist movement stooping to ISIS level.
Both Isis and the smaller Jaysh al-Islam are fighting the government forces in Syria, but have also clashed with each other after the latter was formed out of around 60 rebel factions who refused to declare allegiance to Isis's “caliphate”.
Last week, IS released a video that showed the beheading of 12 rebels, including at least three from Jaysh al-Islam and one from al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria.
Jaysh al-Islam has boasted its military strength in last one year, and is now thought to be commanding up to 25,000 fighters.
Analysts say the video marks a further escalation in the conflict between Syrian rebels and IS.
