New Delhi/Nairobi: Four Indian naval ships are on a two month long overseas deployment to East Africa and the Indian Ocean Region on a goodwill visit to enhance bilateral relations, a statement said Friday.
"Indian naval ships INS Mumbai, INS Talwar, INS Jamuna and INS Deepak are on a two-month long overseas deployment to East Africa and the Indian Ocean Region under the command of Flag Officer Commanding, Western Fleet," said statement from the Indian High Commission in Kenya.
"The visit is aimed at further bolstering bilateral ties and reinforcing cooperation in maritime security between India and Kenya; and India and East Africa," it said, adding India's maritime interaction with countries of East Africa dates back to many centuries.
"India and Kenya also have maintained historical maritime trading links," the statement further said.
The four naval ships arrived at Mombasa on Oct 15, it said.
