Dubai, Jan 30: An Indian hospital is planning to set up two referral centres in Oman, a first of its kind initiative in the Gulf nation.

Genesis International, in association with Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), one of the leading hospitals in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, plans to set up two referral centres in Bausher and Sohar, the Oman Tribune reported.

This will be the first of its kind centre in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the report said.

The referral centre will have specialists from KMCH visiting once a month and patients in Oman can get referred to KMCH. They can also avail follow-up treatment from the referral centres once they get back.

The number of Omani patients travelling to India for treatment has increased considerably in the recent past, Dr Nalla G Palaniswami, chairman of KMCC, said.

“Given this scenario, we felt the need to make treatment in our hospital more accessible and easier for Omanis, so we decided to set up this referral centre,” he was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital is a 700-bed multi-disciplinary super speciality hospital with all the latest medical equipment and treatment facilities.

“And the treatment cost here is only a fraction of what it would cost in, say, countries like the US, or even in other cities of India like Mumbai or Delhi,” Palaniswami said.

Super speciality procedures like open heart surgeries, valve replacement, kidney transplants, hip and knee replacement, complex brain surgeries and advanced spine surgeries are done regularly at the hospital.

KMCH has also recently set up a comprehensive cancer care hospital, with all modern treatment options, the report said.
