Islamabad, Apr 15:  Rejecting an appeal by former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Pakistan's election tribunal Monday barred him from contesting polls.

The Election Tribunal, comprising Lahore High Court judges Justice Abdur Rauf and Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed, declared the former premier ineligible to contest the May 11 parliamentary elections from NA-51 Gujar Khan area, Geo News reported.

Ashraf, 62, has been accused of misappropriating development funds and indulging in nepotism.

Ashraf had replaced Yousuf Raza Gilani as prime minister last year in the midst of a battle with the Supreme court over the issue of writing a letter to Swiss authorities to reopen a graft case against President Asif Ali Zardari.
