Madrid: A Spanish Air Force EF-2000 Typhoon Eurofighter crashed Monday, killing its pilot.
The accident happened at the military airfield of Moron de la Frontera, which is shared by Spanish and US military forces, close to the city of Seville in the south of Spain, Xinhua reported.
Although the exact causes of the crash are still unknown, the Spanish ministry of defence has confirmed that the Typhoon reportedly went into a sudden dive during a routine training flight.
The 30-year-old pilot with over 600 hours flight experience in the EF-2000 was unable to eject in time as the aircraft crashed around one km from the end of the runway.
The EF-2000 came into service with the Spanish air force in 2003 and this is the third accident involving the aircraft.
