Monsoon withdrawal from west Rajasthan to be delayed: IMD
The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from west Rajasthan, which was likely to take place this week, is expected to be delayed due to the formation of cyclonic circulations, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for Monday.
The southwest monsoon was likely to start withdrawing from west Rajasthan this week.

Heavy rains in south India
Southern states such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall, while isolated places in Uttar Pradesh reported light to moderate showers on Sunday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area lies over the westcentral Bay of Bengal off the north Andhra Pradesh coast. It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards central India across Telangana during the next two-three days.

Gujarat govt to provide interest-free loans to women
The Gujarat government on Sunday said it will launch a special scheme to provide interest-free loans to promote self-employment among women in the time of coronavirus pandemic on September 17, birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Kalyan Scheme (MMKS), loans of Rs one lakh will be given to women self-help groups (SHGs) each comprising 10 members, an official release said.

Militants attack security forces in Pulwama
Militants attacked a team of security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, but there are no reports of any loss of life, police said.
"Around 5:45pm, militants fired on a party of Army's Rashtriya Rifles at Parigam in south Kashmir's Pulwama," a police official said.
The security forces retaliated forcing the militants to flee, he said.
There are no reports of any loss of life or injury, he said.
The area has been cordoned off and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers, the official said, adding details are awaited.

RS to elect Deputy Chairman on Monday, govt to introduce 4 ordinances
The Rajya Sabha, on first day of the Monsoon session on Monday, will elect its Deputy Chairman, with NDA's Harivansh Narayan Singh and RJD's Manoj Jha in the fray for the post.
For the ruling National Democratic Alliance, BJP chief J.P. Nadda will move the first motion in support of Singh while Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad will move the first motion from the opposition, and voting may take place, if required.
The upper house of Parliament will also pay condolence to former President Pranab Mukherjee and 18 sitting and former MPs, including Amar Singh.

Experts warn of second wave as COVID-19 cases rise in UK
Scientific experts have warned of a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic and another complete nation-wide lockdown in the UK unless stricter measures are adhered to amid a rising number of infections in the country over the past week.
Peter Openshaw, a professor of experimental medicine and an expert respiratory medicine at Imperial College London, said the new “rule of six” restrictions on large gatherings which comes in force from Monday is extremely crucial.

Nepal resumes visa services
Nepal resumed the visa services for foreign nationals on Sunday, a month after one of the staffers at the immigration department tested positive for COVID-19. Issuing a notice, the Department of Immigration said it will not charge any late fees and penalties for visa renewal till September 27 keeping in view the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
The department had closed all visa services as per the decision of the government.
The department has urged all the service seekers to contact it within 15 days after the resumption of services for the exemption of late fee and penalty.

UP govt transfers 5 IAS officers
The Uttar Pradesh government has transferred five IAS officers including two district magistrates, an official said Sunday. The official said Amit Singh Bansal, the district magistrate of Banda, has been made the district magistrate of Mau.
Manish Kumar Verma, the district magistrate of Kaushambi, has been made the special secretary (basic education). Amit Kumar Singh, the special secretary in the micro, small and medium enterprises, has been made the new district magistrate of Kaushambi.
Anand Kumar Singh, who was the special secretary (basic education), has been made the new district magistrate of Banda. Neha Sharma has been made the ACEO of Noida. Earlier she was the special secretary backward welfare department.
Rajesh Kumar Pandey, who was earlier transferred as district magistrate of Mau, has been kept in waiting.
