Coronavirus Updates: May 28, 2020 | As it happened

Chhattisgarh reports 29 new cases of COVID-19 today. Total positive cases stand at 398 including 315 active cases.

In the last 24 hours, 367 new COVID-19 cases and 22 deaths have been reported in Gujarat. Total positive cases stand at 15,572 and the death toll is at 960.

Haryana reports 123 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 1,504. The number of active cases stand at 604.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Uttarakhand now stands at 500, with 7 new positive cases reported today.

115 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir; 14 from Jammu division and 101 from Kashmir division. The total number of cases stands at 2036 including 1,150 active cases.

12 more COVID-19 deaths in Tamil Nadu, taking the death toll to 145. 827 fresh coronavirus cases takes tally to 19,372.

344 new COVID-19 positive cases and 6 deaths have been reported in the state in the last 24 hours. Total positive cases stand at 4,536 and the death toll is at 229.

84 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Kerala today.

Health Ministry briefed media on the COVID-19 situation in the country. Here are the highlights from the presser:

• The fight against Coronavirus will be won through vaccines and drugs. Our country's science and technology institutions and pharma industry are very strong.
• There are about a total of 30 groups in India, big industry to individual academics, who are trying got develop vaccines, of around 20 are keeping a good pace.
• AICTE and CSIR have embarked on a drug discovery hackathon- this is a high-end hackathon where students are trained with information on how to do computational drug discovery.

7 more people die of COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh, total cases rise to 7,071.

Nepal reported the highest single-day spike of 156 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, total cases now at 1,042. The death toll stands at 5 while 187 people have recovered.

Another 75 COVID-19 patients have recovered and are being discharged. The total recovered cases of Odisha now stand at 887.

33 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Assam today. The total number of positive cases stands at 831, including 87 discharged and 4 deaths.

Total COVID-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh now stand at 276, including 201 active cases, 66 recovered patients and 5 deaths. 

The country saw a sharp rise in daily number of cases on Thursday with 79 new reported infections, most of which are linked to a logistics delivery warehouse cluster. The new numbers may prompt a switch back to "high-intensity social distancing" from the current "everyday life quarantine" measures, officials said.

5 new COVID-19 positive cases and 28 people discharged in Karnataka in the last 24 hours. The total number of positive cases in the state rises to 2493, including 809 discharged and 47 deaths

54 new COVID-19 positive cases reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours; 45 people discharged and 1 death reported in this duration. Total number of positive cases in the state rises to 2841, including 1958 discharged and 59 deaths

131 total COVID-19 positive cases, 6 deaths, 4 recovered in Rajasthan today. The total number of positive cases in the state rises to 7947, including 179 deaths, 4566 recovered and 3913 discharged

67 new COVID-19 positive cases detected in Odisha today, the total number of positive cases in the state rises to 1660
