    MP govt to provide free transport facility for JEE, NEET aspirants

    The Madhya Pradesh government will provide free transport facility to the candidates appearing for the Joint Entrance Exam or JEE (Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET (UG) 2020, from block/district headquarters to their exam centres, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday.

    August rainfall in Delhi highest in 7 years: IMD data

    Delhi recorded 236.5 mm rainfall in August this year, the highest for the month in seven years, according to an India Meteorological Department data.

    The Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for the city, recorded 236.5 mm rainfall against the normal of 245.7 mm till August 30, a deficiency of four percent.

    Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra

    With a single-day spike of 16,408 cases, Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally climbed to 7,80,689 on Sunday, the state health department said. The death of 296 patients during the day pushed the fatality count to 24,399, it said. As many as 7,690 patients were discharged on Sunday following recovery, it added.

    With this, the number of recovered patients has gone up to 5,62,401.

    The state's recovery rate is 72.04 per cent and the fatality rate is 3.13 per cent.

    So far, 40,84,754 people have been tested across the state.

    There are 1,93,548 active cases in the state at present.

    Flood water of Mahanadi submerges several villages in Odisha

    Several villages in coastal Odisha were inundated by flood waters of the Mahanadi on Sunday with over 10 lakh cusecs flowing through Mundali barrage near Cuttack, officials said.

    Cusec is a unit of flow, especially of water, equal to one cubic foot per second. One cusec denotes a flow rate of 28.317 litres per second, so 10 lakh cusecs amount to a flow of 28,300,000 litres of water per second.

    Noting that an inflow of even 7 lakh cusecs (19,821,900 litres per second) at Mundali usually triggers flood in the Daya and the Bhargavi, the two tributaries of the Mahanadi, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P K Jena said, the flood waters have submerged many villages in Kanasa and Delang blocks in Puri district causing two breaches in the embankments of the Daya and another in the Rajua in Khurda district.

    Delhi Fire Services to train hotel, restaurant staffers on fire safety measures

    As hotels and restaurants reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Delhi Fire Services is planning to organise a massive online-cum-practical training session for hotel staffers in the national capital to educate them about the need to have adequate fire safety measures in place, officials said on Sunday.

    The training session will start in September.

    JEE, NEET Exams 2020: Chhattisgarh govt to facilitate transportation for aspirants

    Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday instructed district collectors to arrange free transportation facilities to the candidates appearing for the Joint Entrance Exam or JEE (Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET (UG) 2020 to reach examination centres.

    The buses and other accommodations to be arranged in every district on the basis of number of aspirants. Permission to travel in the vehicle with admit card only.

    Coronavirus cases in Telangana

    Telangana reported 2,924 new COVID-19 positive cases, 1,638 recoveries and 10 deaths on August 29, taking the total number of cases to 1,23,090 in the state. The total number of cases includes 31,284 active cases, 90,988 recoveries and 818 deaths so far.
