    Maharashtra reported 181 deaths and 5257 new COVID-19 positive cases today. Out of 181 deaths, 78 occurred in the last 48 hours and 103 from the previous period. The total number of cases in the state reaches 1,69,883 including, 73,298 active cases.

    Maharashtra Government extends lockdown in state till July 31

    Maharashtra Government on Monday extended lockdown in the state till July 31. Concerned District Collector and Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations in the state may enforce certain measures and necessary restrictions in specified local areas on the permitted non-essential activities and movement of persons to control COVID-19.

    Himachal Pradesh's tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti reported its first COVID-19 case on Monday after a 25-year-old labourer from Bihar tested positive for the disease, officials said.

    Bangladesh Defence Secretary dies from COVID-19

    Bangladesh Defence Secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury on Monday died at a hospital here due to the novel coronavirus, the government has confirmed. Chowdhury died during treatment in Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at 9.30 a.m. Monday, bdnews24 quoted Selina Haque, Additional Secretary to the Defence Ministry, as saying.

    He was admitted at CMH on May 29 after testing positive for COVID-19 and was put into the intensive care unit on June 6 when his condition deteriorated, Bhasani Mirza, administrative officer of the secretary, told The Daily Star newspaper.

    He was on placed on ventilation support on June 18 as his condition deteriorated, he added.

    Sensex tumbles: Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC, Infosys top losers

    Mumbai: Equity benchmark Sensex tumbled over 300 points in early trade on Monday dragged by losses in index-heavyweights HDFC twins, ICICI Bank and Infosys amid negative cues from global markets.

    The 30-share index was trading 323. 91 points, or 0. 92 per cent, lower at 34,847.36, while the NSE Nifty fell 83.65 points, or 0.81 per cent, to 10,299.

    Bajaj Finance was the top loser in the Sensex pack, dropping around 4 per cent, followed by Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC duo and Infosys.

    On the other hand, ITC, Sun Pharma, Nestle India and PowerGrid were among the gainers.

    Sri Lanka lifts night curfew

    Sri Lankan authorities announced that a night curfew which was imposed in the island nation on June 13, would be lifted completely due to the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    A nationwide 24-hour curfew was imposed to prevent the spread of the virus since March 20 but it was later imposed from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. effective from June 13, reports Xinhua news agency.

    Coronavirus updates from United Kingdom

    Another 36 COVID-19 patients have died in Britain as of Saturday afternoon, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 43,550, the British Department of Health and Social Care said. The figures include deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

    As of Sunday morning, 311,151 people have tested positive for the disease in Britain, a daily increase of 901, according to the department.

    As of Sunday morning, there have been 9,195,132 tests of the novel coronavirus in the country, with 127,709 tests on Saturday, said the department.
