    4 more Punjab MLAs test COVID-19 positive; total number 33

     Four more legislators in Punjab tested coronavirus positive, taking their total number to 33 of 117. "Four of our MLAs, Randeep Nabha, Angad Singh, Aman Arora and Parminder Dhindsa, have tested Covid-19 positive," Chief Minister Amarinder Singh informed in a tweet on Thursday.

    "Wish them all a speedy recovery. Fight against Covid-19 is real and the onus is on all of us to observe full precautions, to test, and if found positive, to start treatment quickly," he added.

    The legislators who have contracted the disease comprised five ministers in the government.

    Children can have both COVID-19 antibodies, virus in their system simultaneously: Study

    Children may still have the potential to transmit the novel coronavirus even if they have a measurable immune response, according to a new study which says the virus and antibodies can coexist in young patients.

    The study, published in the Journal of Pediatrics, used a retrospective analysis of 6,369 children tested for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, and 215 patients who underwent antibody testing at the Children's National Hospital in the US between March 13 and June 21.

    According to the scientists, including those from the hospital, 33 of the 215 patients had co-testing for both the virus and antibodies during their COVID-19 disease course, with nine of the 33 showing presence in their blood while also later testing positive for the virus.

    India's COVID-19 tally crosses 38-lakh mark with record single-day jump of 83,883 cases

    India's COVID-19 tally raced past 38 lakh on Thursday with the sharpest single-day spike of 83,883 fresh cases, while the number of recoveries surged to 29,70,492, pushing the recovery rate to over 77 per cent, Union health ministry data showed.

    The total number of coronavirus cases in the country mounted to 38,53,406, while the death toll climbed to 67,376 as 1,043 people succumbed to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

    Boy, taking selfie, killed after being hit by running train

    A class 9 student was killed after he was hit by a running goods train while he was taking a selfie video in Malda district of West Bengal, police said on Wednesday. Manoj Mondal, who was accompanied by a friend, was taking the selfie video on a railway track in Englishbazar area.

    When he was taken to a hospital, doctors declared him brought dead, the officer said adding that his friend had a narrow escape, police said. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the boy, a resident of Kaji village, had come to a relative's place.

    Select international passengers can avail COVID-19 tests on arrival at entry airports

    International passengers who have to take connecting domestic flights after landing in India will have the option of getting themselves tested for COVID-19 at the entry airports, the Civil Aviation Ministry said on Wednesday.

    If the RT-PCR test result is negative, the international passenger will be allowed to catch his or her connecting domestic flight and he or she will not need to undergo any institutional quarantine at the destination city, the ministry's order said.

    US urges India to enhance its position in global supply chain

    The United States has urged India to create an environment that will foster its position in the global supply chain and said that the country continues to face challenges on the market access front despite improvement in the ease of doing business.

    Observing that the coronavirus pandemic may give rise to self-sufficiency and self-reliance sentiments among struggling economies, Joseph Semsar, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, said that India with its “Atmanirbhar Bharat” Initiative has put forward a programme that puts a question mark on the notion of self-reliance.

    Assam rifles uncover illegal liquor bottling plant in Nagaland

    The Assam Rifles on Wednesday uncovered an illegal liquor bottling plant at Dimapur and seized several contraband items, a senior official said. "As part of the ongoing crackdown to prevent illegal activities in Nagaland, security forces seized illegal contraband items in general area 7th Mile Model village, Dimapur," PRO and Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), Col Sanjiv Sethi said.

    One person named Electo Sumi (36) has been apprehended in this connection, he said. Further investigation is underway.

    Bihar RJD MLA quarantined for 14 days in Ranchi

    RJD MLA from Bihar's Barachatti, Samta Devi, one of her associates and two security guards were quarantined by the Ranchi administration on Wednesday after they arrived at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here to meet party president Lalu Prasad Yadav.

    The order to quarantine the legislator was passed by Additional District Magistrate, Law and Order, Akhilesh Kumar Sinha. The MLA reached Ranchi by road from Gaya in Bihar.
