    DU releases its second cut-off list

    The Delhi University released its second cut-off list on Saturday, with many courses being closed for admissions and some programmes opening at the same cut-off as the first list. At Hindu College and Indraprastha College for Women, BA (Honours) English programme has been closed for admission in the second list for unreserved category.

    The first cut-off list was released last Saturday with almost 50 per cent of the seats being filled. The varsity has 70,000 undergraduate seats.
     
    The admissions under the second list will commence from Monday 10 am onwards. This year, the admission process is completely being held online due to coronavirus pandemic.

    Amit Jogi's nomination for bypoll rejected on caste issue

    The nomination papers of Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) chief Amit Jogi for bypoll to the reserved Marwahi Assembly seat was rejected by the returning officer on Saturday, stating that his caste certificate was invalid.

    PM Modi to address centenary convocation of University of Mysore on Monday

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the centenary convocation of the University of Mysore via video-conferencing on Monday. A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday said the Karnataka governor, along with other dignitaries, would be present on the occasion with members of the syndicate and the academic council, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, statutory officers, district officers and students and parents set to witness the ceremony online.

    The University of Mysore was established in 1916. It was the sixth university in the country and the first in Karnataka.

    Maharashtra: Gyms, fitness centres allowed to reopen from Oct 25

    Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said gymnasiums and fitness centres in the state will be allowed to reopen from Dussehra, which falls on October 25.

    During a virtual meeting with representatives of gyms and fitness centres, the chief minister said group activities like zumba and yoga and steam and sauna facilities will not be allowed.

    Nomination papers of Congress candidate from Tundla rejected

    Nomination papers of the Congress candidate from Tundla assembly seat were rejected during scrutiny on Saturday, officials said. Returning Officer Rajesh Kumar Verma said the nomination papers of Congress candidate Snehlata Babli were rejected due to certain shortcomings.

    The affidavit filed along with the nomination papers was not complete, he said.

    The bye-election on the seat is slated for November 3.

    Iran announces its virus death toll passes 30,000 killed

    Iran announced Saturday that its death toll from the coronavirus has passed the milestone of 30,000 killed, in what has been the Mideast region’s worst outbreak.

    The announcement by Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari saw Iran put its total death toll from the outbreak at 30,123 killed, with 253 new deaths being added to the official count.
