Breaking News: September 29, 2020 | Highlights

Ladakh reported 43 new coronavirus cases and 43 recoveries today, taking active cases to 1,030 (637 in Leh district) and recoveries to 3,107. 58 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Union Territory. 

Arunachal Pradesh today reported 221 new COVID-19 cases, 151 discharges and one death, taking total cases to 9,953 including 6,743 recoveries and 16 deaths. 

48 deaths and 3,227 fresh positive cases reported in Delhi, in the last 24 hours. The total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 2,76,325 including 2,43,481 recoveries, 27,524 active cases and 5,320 deaths. 

Maharashtra reported 14,976 new COVID-19 cases, 430 deaths and 19,212 discharges today. Total cases in the state rise to 13,66,129, including 36,181 deaths and 10,69,159 discharges. The active cases stand at 2,60,363. 

Mumbai recorded 1,713 new COVID-19 cases and 49 deaths today, taking active cases to 26,001 and death toll to 8,880. 

Haryana reported 1,562 COVID-19 cases, 2,403 recoveries and 25 deaths today, taking total cases to 1,26,974 including 1,10,814 recoveries, 1,356 deaths and 14,804 active cases. 

13 new COVID-19 cases reported in Dharavi area of Mumbai today, taking the total number of cases to 3,165 including 188 active cases and 2,690 discharges. 

Karnataka reported 10,453 new COVID-19 cases, 6,628 discharges and 136 deaths, taking total cases to 5,92,911 including 4,76,378 discharges and 8,777 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 1,07,737. 

Uttarakhand reported 493 new coronavirus cases and 1,413 recoveries today, taking total cases to 47,995 including 38,059 recoveries and 591 deaths. 

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has tested positive for COVID-19.

West Bengal recorded 3,188 new coronavirus cases, 2,961 recoveries and 62 deaths, taking total cases to 2,53,768 including 2,22,805 recoveries, 4,899 deaths and 26,064 active cases. 

18 new coronavirus cases and 5 recoveries reported in Andaman and Nicobar, taking total cases to 3,821 including 181 active cases, 53 deaths and 3,587 recoveries. 

Jharkhand reported 1,123 new COVID-19 cases, 1,295 recoveries and 12 deaths today, taking total cases to 82,540 including 69,898 recoveries, 700 deaths and 11,942 active cases. 

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Himachal Pradesh now stands at 14,747 including 3,573 active cases, 10,971 recovered and 178 deaths. 

Andhra Pradesh reported 6,190 new COVID-19 cases, 9,836 recoveries and 35 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking total positive cases to 6,87,351, including 6,22,136 recoveries, 59,435 active cases and 5,780 deaths. 

Manipur reported 269 new COVID-19 cases, 57 recoveries and 1 death in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases to 10,746, including 8,039 recovered cases, 2,642 active cases and 65 deaths. The recovery rate is 74.80%. 

Tamil Nadu government extended COVID-19 lockdown till October 31, with some more relaxations. 

Health Ministry officials on Tuesday addressed a press conference. Here are some pointers from the presser:

• The number of COVID-19 tests per million population has crossed 50,000 in India. Total 2.97 crore tests conducted in the month of September."
• ICMR’s (Indian Council of Medical Research) second Sero Survey report reveals that a considerable population still vulnerable to COVID-19.
• Since a large portion of the population is yet susceptible, prevention fatigue is to be avoided and 5T strategy (Test, Track, Trace, Treat & Technology) is to be adhered to.
• The count of  COVID-19 deaths per million population in India is amongst the lowest in the world. 
• The number of recovered cases in India crosses 51 lakhs which is the highest in the world.
• In the light of the upcoming festivities, winter season and mass gathering, inventive containment strategies need to be implemented by the states.
• As per ICMR’s (Indian Council of Medical Research) second national serosurvey report, one in 15 individuals aged more than 10 years were estimated to be exposed to COVID-19 by August 2020.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches logo of Jal Jeevan Mission, via video conferencing; also launches six mega projects in Uttarakhand under Namami Gange Mission.
• In the past decades, huge initiatives were taken up to clean river Ganga but those initiatives had neither public participation nor farsightedness. As a result, water of river Ganga was never cleaned
• Several reforms, related to farmers, labourers & health, were brought during the recently concluded Parliament session. These reforms will strengthen labourers, youth, women, farmers of the nation. But the nation can see how some people are opposing it just for the sake of it
• Farmers can now sell their produce to anyone, anywhere. But when centre is giving farmers their rights, these people are opposing it. They don't want farmers to sell their produce in open market, they want middlemen to earn profit. They're opposing the freedom of farmers
• They are insulting the farmers by setting fire to the machines and equipment that is worshipped by them. For years, they said that they will implement MSP but they never did. This was done by our govt as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission
• Today these people are misleading farmers over MSP. There will not only be MSP in the country but also the freedom for farmers to sell their produce anywhere. But some people are unable to tolerate this freedom. Their one more medium to earn black income is finished

The 6th meeting of Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) between India & Bangladesh will be held virtually today.  Indian delegation will be led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar & Bangladesh delegation will be led by Minister of Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Momen.

A 19-year-old woman who was gang-raped and assaulted in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh, passes away at a hospital in Delhi, confirms her brother. The woman was gang raped in Hathras on 14th September, 2020.

Hathras gang-rape victim was admitted at Safdarjung hospital for better healthcare facilities. She died today morning. More details are awaited: Safdarjung hospital official

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 61-lakh mark with a spike of 70,589 new cases and 776 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Case tally stands at 61,45,292 including 9,47,576 active cases, 51,01,398 cured/discharged/migrated & 96,318.

Mizoram reports 50 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total cases in the state rise to 1958, including 1459 discharges. Active cases stand at 499
