Brussels: All acts of anti-Semitism should be strongly denounced and punished under the law, Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo said Sunday.
Speaking at the reopening of the Jewish Museum in Brussels, Di Rupo said “all anti-Semitic or racist acts should be strongly condemned, prosecuted and punished”, Xinhua reported.
The prime minister recalled the murder of four people at the museum May 24. The victims were targeted on the day “because they were Jewish”.
Those who are guilty of incitement to hatred or violence must be punished “with the greatest firmness”, Rupo said.
Di Rupo said Belgium will further strengthen European and international cooperation to fight more effectively any networks or individuals who undermine the democratic process in this way.
The reopening of the museum was the best response of light over darkness, he said.
