Washington: President Barack Obama summoned his national security team to the White House to discuss potential threats after the Senate report on CIA harsh interrogation techniques and ahead of the upcoming holidays.

Officials have not identified any specific terror threats confronting the U.S. or U.S. personnel overseas. But the usual end-of-year briefing had heightened significance since the Senate concluded that the CIA used brutal interrogation tactics on terror detainees after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The White House said Obama and his National Security Council also discussed the attack by Taliban gunmen on a Pakistani school Tuesday that killed more than 100 children.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the president gets the briefing around the holidays to review “what we're monitoring and, in some cases, even countering around the globe.”
