Pakistan's super model Ayyan Ali, who is the face of Islamic nation's fashion fraternity for the last few years, is currently spending days in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail.
Started her career at the age of 16, Ayyan Ali has featured in several Pakistani television commercials.
In 2014, it was announced that Ali would participate in the Miss Universe pageant to represent Pakistan. Had she participated, it would have been the first time a citizen of the Islamic Republic competed. Ali was not a competitor that year.
On March 14, 2015, the 22 year old model was detained by Islamabad Airport Authority on the charges of smuggling money to Gulf nation (Dubai). Ayyan was carrying $500,000 in her suitcase whereas the legal limit of cash that can be carried out of Pakistan is only $10,000.
During interrogation she allegedly named several Pakistani politicians and models involved in money laundering.
Since then, Ali is in jail. Her bail application was recently turned down by a special Customs Court in Rawalpindi. After hearing arguments from both the sides, court find that Ayyan had failed to justify her stance and was caught red handed.
Ayyan Ali earned the title of 'Best Female Emerging Model' in 2010. She was awarded the title of Calvin Klein ‘Beauty of the Year 2010' while in 2012 she won the best Female Model Award.
However, soon after Ali's money laundering case hit the headlines, another shocking fact about her education qualification came into light.
Her detailed mark sheet of secondary school examination, which was circulated on social media, showcased that Ayyan passed the matriculation exam with D grade. Moreover, her name on the mark sheet is maintained as Ayyan Hafeez instead of Ayyan Ali.
Ms Ali is among the most-renowned faces of the industry with appearances in all sorts of advertisements ranging from ice-cream to mobile phones. The model charges US $500,000 per show in foreign countries and is one of the investors in Pakistan.
