Agartala, Jul 21: Agartala-Dhaka bus service, which was suspended following violence and strike in Bangladesh after the announcement of death sentence to the Jamaat-e-Islami mass murderer, resumed on Saturday.
But people associated with the transportation business complained that number of passengers travelling between the two nations had gone down.
“The number of passenger travelling is less as due to the strikes going on in Bangladesh but now the situation has lightly improved. Passengers are travelling less due to road blockage and strikes," said Mohammad Badal, driver of Shymoli, run by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).
Commuters said, the situation has improved in Bangladesh and they wre travelling to Bangladesh to meet their relatives or to Kolkata via Dhaka.
“I am going to Gulshan in Dhaka, my son is employed there to meet him. I am aware about the unrest in Bangladesh but my son has informed that the situation has improved now,” said Jamuna Dey of Agartala who is going to Dhaka to meet her son and his family.
Earlier an Indian bus was set ablaze by violent protesters close to Dhaka few months back after w hich the bus service was closed for some time.
Tripura shares 856 km-long-border with Bangladesh which constitutes 85 per cent of the total border of the state. The state transacts trade with the neighbouring country through five land custom stations.
The Jamaat-e-Islami, which was against the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971, organised protests and strikes across that country since Monday to protest the death sentence of the party's secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammed Mujaheed by an international tribunal.
