Frankfurt: A 1914 water colour painting of the city hall in Munich, painted by none other than Adolf Hitler himself was sold off for 130,000 euros ($161,000) at an auction on Saturday.
The buyer however chose to remain anonymous. This auction was held in the southern German city of Nuremberg.
This painting had been put up for sale by two elderly sisters. In 1916, their grandfather had bought the artwork from Hitler, who by then was in his mid twenties.
The size of the art piece is 11 inches by 8.7 inches.
Hitler was very fond of art. As an amateur he applied to the Vienna Academy of Art but was rejected.
So Hitler copied images from postcards and sold to tourists. Professionals consider his work to be mediocre in quality.
Owing to Anti-Nazi atmosphere the larger auction houses generally decline to sell Hitler's works.
Nuremberg famously hosted the trials of Nazi leaders after World War II.
