Baghdad: At least 20 Iraqis were killed and 52 injured when two car bombs exploded on Tuesday here, a police source said.
"The parked car bomb exploded in the New Baghdad area south of Baghdad, killing 18 people, including women and children, wounding 43 and causing material damage to a number of nearby buildings and shops," a source in the Iraqi police told Xinhua news agency.
He said a second parked car bomb exploded near a gas station in the Zaafaraniya area, south of Baghdad, killing two people and injuring nine.
The security situation in Iraq has drastically deteriorated since June 2014, when clashes broke out between Iraqi security forces and IS militants.
