Kabul: At least 13 militants have been killed in security operations in Afghanistan, the country's interior ministry said on Tuesday.
"The security forces conducted a series of operations in Laghman, Takhar, Kunduz, Faryab, Sari Pul, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Logar, Ghazni and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours. As a result 13 insurgents were killed, 10 injured and one was arrested by the forces," Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.
"The ministry of interior affairs lauds the operations to eliminate the terrorists' sanctuaries. It is a good step toward improving the security and stability," the statement said.
The forces also seized weapons and defused several roadside bombs planted by the militants.
The Taliban-led militancy has been rampant since mid-April when the militant group launched its annual rebel offensive against Afghan security forces.
