Sanaa: Al Qaeda militants stormed a police station in Yemen's Red Sea province of al-Hodayda Saturday, killing at least 10 policemen and seizing the district linking the Red Sea port to the central province of Ibb, security sources said.

A group of Al Qaeda militants attacked the police station in Jabal Ras district Saturday evening and then seized control of the area, about 226 km east of the capital Sanaa, Xinhua quoted the sources as saying.

On the same day, Al Qaeda militants raided a checkpoint run by Shia Houthi fighters in Radda city in the central province of al- Bayda, killing five Houthis, a tribal source said.

Security situation deteriorated in the Arab country since the Shia Houthi group overran Sanaa after deadly conflicts in September. Taking advantage of the security vacuum, the militants, known locally as Ansar al-Sharia, have been lately launching attacks against the government's security and military forces.

The impoverished Arab country has been gripped by regional Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula insurgency since 2009. Terrorist groups, mainly based in southern and eastern provinces, have launched frequent suicide attacks on army and security targets, leaving hundreds of people dead.
