In yet another stern warning to Pakistan, the United States today told Islamabad to delegitimise all terrorist groups operating on its soil.
“We continue to urge Pakistan to take action to combat and delegitimise all terrorist groups operating on its soil,” State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner said.
Stating that Pakistan had suffered at the hands of terrorists and extremists, he said that Washington had always laid stress on Islamabad to take action against all groups spreading hatred and violence.
“Obviously Pakistan has suffered greatly at the hands of terrorists and violent extremists. We want to help Pakistan confront this terrorist threat, but we also want Pakistan also to go after those terrorists who seek and sometimes find safe haven on Pakistan territory,” he said in response to a question.
The US has over the past several days repeatedly stressed on the Pakistani government to take action against all militants inside the country.
Toner also said that US wants India and Pakistan to peacefully resolve all the pending issues.
“The tensions between Pakistan and India should go down,” he said, adding that US wants greater cooperation and comprehensive dialogues between the two nuclear-capable states.
Toner further said the US stands by its stance over Kashmir.
When asked about Pakistan’s alleged allegations of human rights violation in Kashmir by Indian forces, Toner said, “The United States will look into human rights abuses wherever they occur.”
Pakistan has criticised India over alleged human rights violation in Kashmir and threatened to expose the country in the world.
India, however, has rejected Pakistan’s charges and accused it of exporting terror in the Valley. India has maintained that cross-border terrorism is the main root cause of Kashmir unrest.
More than 80 civilians have been killed, and thousands have been injured in clashes that broke out after the killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani in July this year.
