The police have given an ‘all-clear’ signal at Marymount University after report of a gunman seen in the campus parking lot on Monday afternoon.

The police have given an ‘all-clear’ signal at Marymount University after report of a gunman seen in the campus parking lot on Monday afternoon.

Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said that police received a report around 1 pm of a man on campus carrying a dark object that might be a gun. 

Police said that the university was put on lockdown and a massive search operation was launched to trace the man.

Students and staff were told to remain indoors while police search the site, the spokeswoman said, adding that the ‘an all-clear less than an hour later’.

The university had earlier tweeted that a Hispanic male was seen ‘in an unknown parking lot on campus with a gun’. However, minutes later the university was given the all clear signal by police.

“Police responded to a call reporting that a Hispanic man was in a campus parking lot with a gun,” the University said in a tweet, adding that ‘the incident was not a drill’.

Marymount is a coed, Catholic university with its main campus in the Ballston section of Arlington. About 2,300 undergrads attend.
