In a bizarre finding, ISIS brides are being gifted suicide belts and machine guns as part of their ‘wedding dowries’, media reports citing documents pertaining to the terror group recovered from Sirte have claimed.
According to a report by The Sun, a set of documents recently uncovered in Libya elucidates how jihadis, who run short of money, are offering their wives-to-be ‘deadly presents’ as a sign of their affection.
For instance, Abu Mansour from Tunisia married a Nigerian woman named Miriam but instead of paying a dowry, he promised to pay compensation of one suicide belt in case of his death or the marriage being dissolved.
The documents belonging to the ISIS were found by the forces allied with Libya’s unity government as they searched buildings seized during a battle with the terror outfit in the coastal city of Sirte.
According to the report, the papers belonged to the ISIS ‘Judicial and Complaints’ departments of the ISIS and have now been published on the pre-government forces’ Facebook pages.
Many of those documents reveal the bizarre marriage contracts and divorce rulings that have been drawn up.
In another case, Malian Abu Said promised his jihadi bride Fatima from Nigeria a Kalashnikov assault rifle in the event of his death or divorce.
Islamic State took over Sirte in July 2015 and imposed a reign of terror over the Libyan city.
Ever since then, public killings have become a regular practice on the south side of Sirte. Moreover, is also feared that jihadis would use the Mediterranean city as a launch pad for attacks on Europe.
In 2015, an ISIS marriage certificate was circulated among supporters of the extremist group after the bride included was being allowed to carry out a suicide attack as a condition of marriage.
The document states that the woman should be allowed to go on a “martyrdom operation” should ISIS leaders approve her request.
It specifies that the husband must not forbid her from undertaking such a mission, and is signed by both parties.
