Raheel Sharif Storm brews in Pakistan over allotment of 90 acres of land to former Army chief

A controversy has erupted in Pakistan over allotment of 90 acres of prime land to former Pakistan Army chief General (retired) Raheel Sharif.

According to a report in Dawn, the resentment is refusing to die down despite the security establishment’s clarification that there was nothing unusual about it.

"It is agricultural land and will be used for this purpose alone. It will not be used for commercial purpose as is the impression being created by some," Dawn quoted a security official as saying.

The official pointed out that similar volume of agricultural land has been given to every Army chief of Pakistan in the past.

The report adds  that the land in the Bedian Road area started making headlines after  news spread about Gen Raheel being awarded the 90 acres and is now being hotly debated in media and political circles.
