Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who is in Pakistan to attend the SAARC Interior Ministers' conference, along with his counterparts from the member countries today called on Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
"It was a formal courtesy call, nothing else," an official said.
Singh was part of the joint delegation of the Interior/Home Ministers of SAARC nations when they called on the Pakistani Prime Minister at his office.
The Interior/Home Ministers' of SAARC nations were with Sharif for about 20 minutes during which only pleasantries were exchanged.
“Nothing formal was discussed,” the official added.
Sharif's meeting with a senior Indian functionary came amidst the ongoing strain in bilateral relations between India and Pakistan following the killing of Hizbul Mujahedeen militant Burhan Wani in Jammu and Kashmir on July 8.
Earlier this morning, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi informed that Singh will not have any bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan on the sidelines of the SAARC meeting.
"There will be no bilateral meeting. We have already said that," Mehrishi told reporters when asked if any bilateral meeting between Singh and Khan would take place.
Singh arrived here last evening to attend the 7th SAARC Home/Interior Ministers' conference during which he is expected to raise the issue of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, designated as global terrorist, and cross border terrorism.
The eight-member SAARC grouping comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
