Crickerter-turned-politician and now Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to watch his country's Asia Cup group league encounter against India on Wednesday, local media report says.
Imran, a legendary former Pakistan cricket captain, is also the patron-in chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistani news channel, quoting diplomatic sources, said that Imran Khan will watch the Pakistan-India Asia Cup clash in Dubai on Wednesday, during his first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The Pak PM has already left for the trip.
"According to sources, the former cricketer who led the Pakistan team to the 1992 World Cup victory, will be in the stands to watch the game," GEO TV report said.
The arch rivals are facing each other for the first time in the United Arab Emirates since 2006,, the last of their regular matches which were also held in Sharjah between 1984-2000. The last match between arch rivals and India and Pakistan was during the Champions Trophy at The Oval in June last year, where neighbours defeated Men in Blue by 180 runs.
Incidentally, Imran was the captain of Pakistan for the better part of the Indo-Pak duels in Sharjah from the mid 80's to early 90s. Having played 263 international matches for Pakistan, Imran scored 1,524 runs and claimed 129 wickets in 52 matches against India.
