Washington: The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States marked the death anniversary of Osama Bin Laden, founder of terror organisation al-Qaeda and a mastermind of September 11 attacks also known as 9/11 attacks, releasing step-by-step tweets of the raid at Osama’s Abbottabad compound in Pakistan on May 2, 2011.
Tracing the terrorist was not an easy task and the FBI had declared a $25 million bounty in their search for him.
Laden lived in a compound with his family with no internet or a cell which made him much harder to trace.
Here are some tweets by the CIA which depict a step-by-step assassination of Laden:
“1:51pm EDT – Helicopters depart from Afghanistan for compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan,” read one tweet.
“3:30pm EDT – 2helicopters descend on compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. 1 crashes, but assault continues without delay or injury,” read another.
“Death of Osama Bin Laden marked significant victory in US-led campaign to disrupt, dismantle, & defeat al-Qa`ida. #UBLRaid,” CIA wrote on twitter.
The tweets also include the picture of US President Barack Obama with other high ranking officials keeping complete track of the operation.
“The takedown of Osama bin Laden stands as one of the great intelligence successes of all time. History has been a key element of CIA's social media efforts,” said CIA spokesperson Ryan Trapani.
“On the fifth anniversary, it is appropriate to remember the day and honour all those who had a hand in this achievement,” he further added.
