The mystery behind the Bermuda Triangle where more than 75 planes and hundreds of ships are said to have disappeared is finally revealed.

According to a report in New York Post, strange clouds forming above the Bermuda Triangle can explain why ships and planes have mysteriously vanished in the notorious patch of sea.

The remarkable new theory suggests the clouds are linked to 170-mph "air bombs" -- capable of bringing down planes and ships.

The riddle could finally be solved after meteorologists discovered bizarre "hexagonal" -shaped clouds between 20 and 50 miles wide forming over the dodgy patch of water.

Meteorologist Randy Cerveny said, "The satellite imagery is really bizarre... the hexagonal shapes of the cloud formations.

"These types of hexagonal shapes in the ocean are in essence air bombs. They're formed by microbursts and are blasts of air."

The blasts of air are so powerful that they can reach 170 mph -- a hurricane-like force easily capable of sinking ships and downing planes.

For centuries, the notorious Bermuda Triangle -- located between Miami, Puerto Rico and the island of Bermuda -- has been linked with a high number of unexplained disappearances of aircraft and ships in its waters.

The Bermuda Triangle is located off the South-Eastern coast of the United States and in the Atlantic Ocean. The three corners of the triangle are: Miami (Florida); San Juan (Puerto Rico); and Bermuda (the north-Atlantic island).

There have been a number of mysterious vanishings and unsolved mysteries in this stretch of ocean. Most of people believe that the Bermuda Triangle is a dangerous place to venture.  More than 1000 ships and planes have disappeared in the triangle area over the past five centuries and continue to do so.
