Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Monday accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Hani Mulki after amid mass protests over price hikes and income tax bill reforms.
There were large protests in Amman over the last four days and the protestors were demanding a scrap of the new policy.
To decrease Jordan's national debt of $37bn, a series of economic reforms were brought, and the government introduced price hikes on basic commodities. The cost of fuel has increased five times in 2018, and electricity bills have shot up to 55 per cent.
Some sources have claimed that King Abdullah who was also a former World Bank economist has asked the current education minister Omar al-Razzaq to become the Prime Minister and form the new government.
