Interpol chief missing case: French Police launches investigation

Both the French Police and the Interior Ministry have not commented on the matter yet.

The French Police has launched investigation into the disapperance of Interpol President Meng Hongwei.

It has not been established yet it Hongwei was in China when he disappeared, but a senior French law enforcement official confirmed that he was not in France. They added that Hongwei's wife reported his disappearance with police in Lyon as she has not heard from him for around 10 days.

In its statement, Interpol said; "We are aware of media reports in connection with the alleged disappearance of Interpol chief Meng Hongwei. This is a matter for the relevant authorities in both France and China. Interpol's General Secretariat headquarters will not comment further".

Both the French Police and the Interior Ministry have not commented on the matter yet.

Hongwei was elected as the Interpol Chief in November 2016, becoming the first Chinese official to become the Interpol President. He is currently the Vice Minister for Public Security in China and was the former head of Interpol China.
