Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai today hailed India’s surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads based out of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and termed it a justified step.
“Indian Army’s surgical strikes on terrorist sanctuaries is a justified step in order to defend their land,” Hamid Karzai said.
Karzai said that Afghanistan too has been a victim of terrorism and fundamentalism and felt the need for such military operations more than anyone else.
He recalled that Kabul had repeatedly asked United States over the past 13 years to conduct cross-border attacks against the terrorist sanctuaries outside of Afghanistan although it never took place.
“Afghanistan has been a victim of terrorism and fundamentalism for years. We feel need of such military operations more than anyone else. We repeatedly demanded US to conduct cross-border attacks against terrorist sanctuaries outside Afghanistan which didn’t happen,” Karzai said.
Karzai’s statement comes in the wake of Indian Army carrying out surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday in response to the Uri terror attack in which 19 Indian soldiers were martyred.
“The operations were focused on ensuring that these terrorists do not succeed in their design to cause destruction and endanger the lives of our citizens,” Lt General Ranbir Singh, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), had said.
