Congress president Rahul Gandhi will address the Indian diaspora from 50 countries at a function organised by 'Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin' (GOPIO) in Bahrain today at 8.30 pm (IST).
On his first foreign trip since assuming the post of party president, Rahul Gandhi met Prince Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and discussed sports.
"CP Rahul Gandhi meets H.R.H Prince Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa (@khalidbinhamad) at the Al Wadi Palace. They spoke about Sports in Bahrain in general (Horse endurance) and competing in Iron Man. They also plan to develop sports and cricket together," Congress tweeted.
Gandhi, who is a state guest of Bahrain, is also expected to meet King Hamas bin Isa Al Khalifa.
“NRIs are the true representatives of our soft power and the brand ambassadors of our nation across the globe. Looking forward to meeting and addressing fellow countrymen in Bahrain tomorrow,” Gandhi tweeted ahead of his trip.

'Euphoric reception' in Bahrain
Rahul Gandhi received a 'euphoric reception' by members of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) on his arrival in Bahrain earlier today, Congress said in a tweet.
Congress tweeted: "Euphoric reception for Congress President Rahul Gandhi on his arrival at Kingdom of Bahrain."
"Fans and well wishers throng the Bahrain Airport to greet Congress President Rahul Gandhi," the party tweeted.
Gandhi's visit is part of his interactions with Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs). Gulf countries have the biggest Indian diaspora of more than 35 lakh.
Congress chief is expected to return to India on January 9.
