Ajmer, Aug 18: The one million dollar donation, announced by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari for sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's shrine here during his visit in April this year, was handed over on Friday.
The money will be utilized for the development of welfare projects, upkeep and maintenance of the 13th-century shrine of the sufi saint equally reverred by both Muslims and Hindus. Zardari had announced the donation on April 8 after offering prayers at the dargah.
On behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan, High Commissioner Salman Bashir presented the cheques of the donation amount, says a High Commission press release.
The Presidents and office bearers of the Dargah's Anjumans and Committee expressed their “deep appreciation and profound gratitude to the President and people of Pakistan for the generous donation”, said the release.
Besides members of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, the Collector and other senior officials of Ajmer district attended the cheques-presentation function.
Special prayers were also offered on the occasion that coincided with the Jummat-ul-Vida, the last Friday before Eid-ul-Fitr. PTI
