New Delhi: 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict, Yakub Memon, today moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on his hanging, scheduled for July 30.

Yakub's lawyer filed plea in the apex court saying that other legal remedies are still available so the execution of death sentence should be stayed.

On Tuesday, the apex court had rejected a curative petition of Yakub paving the way for his execution on July 30.

Soon after this, Yakub had submitted a mercy petition to the Maharashtra Governor.

Yakub is the only convict whose death sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court.

President Pranab Mukherjee had rejected his mercy petition in May 2014.

A chartered accountant, Yakub is the younger brother of Tiger Memon, who along with Dawood Ibrahim masterminded the blasts. Tiger Menon is absconding since then.

Yakub has been in custody since 1994.

The serial blasts in March 1993 had left 257 dead and over 700 injured.
