The Delhi and Haryana Police in a joint operation on Saturday arrested wrestling coach Sukhwinder, main accused, in the murder case of 5 people in Rohtak.
On Friday, 5 people were shot dead and two, including a child, were grievously injured in a firing incident at a wrestling venue in Haryana's Rohtak town, the police said on Saturday. The dead included a wrestling coach. An old enmity among wrestling coaches could have led to the crime that occurred.
"He would be produced in court and then handed over to the Haryana police," said a senior police officer.
The Haryana Police were tailing the accused, himself a wrestling coach and there were inputs that he is hiding in the national Capital. The Delhi Police, along with members of the Haryana Police, succeeded in identifying the location of the accused and finally arrested him.
Speaking on the matter, Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer North District, Delhi said that the Haryana police gave inputs for a possibility of inter-state movement of accused who had escaped in a car after the incident. Keeping this in view, Staff of Outer North District was briefed and deployed for patrolling in area.
A team of police station SP Badli was on patrolling duty when they noticed a car moving suspiciously and the team signalled it to stop but the driver of the car tried to escape. He was given a chase and was stopped. When searched a country-made pistol along with 5 rounds was recovered from him.
When interrogated he disclosed his identity as Sukhwinder Mor son of Mehar Singh, resident of VPO Baroda, Tehsil Gohana, District, Sonipat, Haryana. He confessed that he is the same person who had murdered 5 people in Jaat College where he was working as a wrestling coach.
The team of Haryana Police was at once intimated who also joined the interrogation of the accused.
Coach Manoj Malik, his wife Sakshi Malik and 3 other wrestlers were allegedly gunned down at an akhara on Friday evening by wrestling coach Sukhwinder in a fit of rage over his suspension from the job. Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that Manoj had got Sukhwinder terminated from the job on a complaint.
The dead include Manoj, a resident of Saragthala village in Sonepat, his wife Sakshi, Pooja, wrestling coach Satish Kumar and Pradeep Malik. Sakshi's three-year-old son and Amarjit were injured in the crime.
Earlier the Haryana Police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the prime suspect Sukhwinder.
Who is Sukhwinder, prime accused in Rohtak murder case?
Accused Sukhwinder, 31-year-old, is younger of two siblings of an ex-serviceman. After his graduation and one year course at NIS Patiala, he started his career as a wrestling coach in Jaat College Rohtak. He had a troubled married life and got separated with his wife and was thus living alone.
