Mumbai- A teacher at an engineering college in Karjat, who sold answersheets to students and let them write exams at his house, was exposed by his wife on Monday when she approached the local police with documents and shocking details of his answersheets-for-cash scam, reports Mumbai Mirror.

The wife did this  two weeks after being thrashed by him for demanding that he give up his crooked ways.Prof Ganesh Vishnu Kamankar, 24, has now been arrested and his wife Aparna, 23, a class XII pass, has promised police all help in the probe, the report said.

Aparna and Ganesh studied in the same school in Kalyan and grew up together. They began dating in college and got married on July 14 this year. They then moved to Karjat where Ganesh was employed with the Yadavrao Tasgaonkar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Just a few days into their marriage, Aparna was in for a shock when Ganesh returned home with bundles of cash. When she asked him about the source of the money, he was evasive.“In the next few weeks, he got more cash and I kept asking him to explain,” Aparna told Mumbai Mirror on Monday at the Kalyan Police Station.

She got all her answers a few days later when some students came to her house and started writing their papers on answersheets provided by Ganesh. “It was then that I figured that he had blank answersheets and was accepting money from students to write exams fraudulently,” she said.

Over the next few days, she tried convincing Ganesh to give up this life of duplicity. “I told him that we would be happy living off his limited salary. My father is also a government servant and never took a single penny in bribe. My conscience just did not allow me to be a mute spectator,” said Aparna.

Her pleas were ignored by Ganesh. However, a fortnight ago when he got home with Rs 2 lakh in cash, she decided she would not take things lying down.

“I refused to keep the money and told him that he would have to mend his ways. He got angry and hit me and eventually threw me out of the house. I suffered a miscarriage,” said a sobbing Aparna.

Before leaving home, Aparna packed some blank answersheets, supplement sheets of Mumbai University, examination seals of two colleges, bar codes and other documents in her bag. She later handed over all this to the Kalyan police.

The cops registered a case against her husband and arrested him. “We have the documents and will verify them with the Mumbai University,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kalyan, D S Thakur.Vilas Shinde, Controller of Examinations for University of Mumbai, said that no person can be in possession of blank answersheets.

“He could have stolen them from his college when we sent them in sealed envelopes during examinations. As soon as the police refers these documents to me, I will give them my report,” he said.
