Jammu: 49 percent of voters in the state have been issued Aadhar numbers till date, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral on Tuesday said.
As per available information from the census department, 49 percent of voters in the state have been issued 'Aadhaar numbers' as on date, Chief Electoral Officer, J&K Election Department, Shantmanu said.
The total number of voters in Jammu and Kashmir is 7289113, election officials said.
Shantmanu had yesterday reviewed implementation of National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP) through videoconferencing with District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers of Jammu division and discussed election related issues in their respective districts.
Launched by Election Commission of India on March 3 this year, the programme is expected to be completed by August 15.
The programme aims to link and authenticate electoral data with Aadhaar data, correct errors, delete multiple entries and improve image quality in electoral rolls.
The CEO also directed the District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers to expedite the process of collection and feeding of Aadhaar numbers besides purification of electoral roll including improvement of images so that the job can be completed in the stipulated time.
