Vidisha : A mood of jubilation prevailed in Vidisha today as the child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi, who hails from the city, received the Nobel Peace Prize alongwith Malala Yousafzai at a ceremony in Oslo.
A crowd gathered at a shop owned by Jagmohan Sharma, a retired professor and Satyarthi's eldest brother, at Kila Andar area.
Another brother Narendra and sister Leela Sharma, nephews Umesh and Parvesh and niece Nita also joined the impromptu celebration that started on the street. “We are on cloud nine,” said Rajesh Dixit, one of the locals.
“My brother has scaled a summit...,” said professor Sharma. Satyarthi's NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Movement) is credited with liberating over 80,000 children from bonded labour in factories and workshops across India.
