Vadodara: Tomato dishes may not find a place in the menu of many households, but in Vadodara, youths observed 'La Tomatina', an event where participants hurl tomatoes at each other and get involved in the tomato fight, to mark Friendship Day celebrations.
The event was organized for enjoyment of youths, said an organizer.
The event, which was organized at a private farm house, Lilleria, also invited anger from locals.
“People are unable to buy tomato at this time. Government must take action the organizers. It is against the ethics of this country. Tomato should not have been wasted like this,” a local said.
According to an estimate, nearly three tonne of tomatoes were used in this event which lasted two hours. Every participant was charged an entry fee of Rs 300.
'La Tomatina' is a food fight festival commonly celebrated in the town of Bunol near Valencia in Spain on the last Wednesday of August each year.
