New Delhi: Yoga guru Ramdev has got stranded in Gangotri along with his 400 students from Acharyakulam due to blocking of routes caused by heavy rains.
They had gone there to attend a programme despite the alert issued by the Meteorological Department (MeT) department.
The MeT department has said that some parts of the state can witness heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours beginning from Wednesday.
There are reports that Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers are on the surge and Joshimath has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Tuesday night.
The rains have caused landslides on Sonprayag-Kedarnath trek in Rudraprayag district and Rudraprayag-Gaurikund national highway.
The Uttarakhand DGP said if anything happened to the children who went to Gangotri with Baba Ramdev, then legal action would be taken against the yoga guru.
The Uttarakhand government has halted the Kedarnath Yatra from July 16 to 18 following heavy rains.
The state, which witnessed a devastating disaster last year when thousands of Char Dham yatra pilgrims lost their lives after being caught unaware in the deluge, has warned pilgrims to keep themselves updated on the weather conditions.
The state disaster management department has asked pilgrims bound for Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri to be prepared as per the MeT department warning, and has been issuing regular weather updates to them, officials said.
