All government and private schools in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, will remain closed on September 12 due to a heavy to very heavy rain alert. The District Magistrate has issued orders for the closure, affecting students from Class 1 to 12. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in seven districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, for Thursday and Friday. In response, the State Disaster Management Authority has instructed district officials to stay on high alert.
Heavy rainfall predicted
Bikram Singh, Director of the Meteorological Center, stated that Dehradun, Pauri, Bageshwar, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar are expected to witness heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Given this, the Disaster Management Department has directed all relevant departments to be prepared and complete all necessary arrangements.
Snowfall on Badrinath and Kedarnath peaks
On Tuesday afternoon, high-altitude areas of Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts experienced rainfall, and peaks around Badrinath and Kedarnath witnessed snowfall.
Schools Closed in Chamoli and Bageshwar
Following the weather warning, schools in Chamoli and Bageshwar districts will remain closed. The District Magistrate of Bageshwar has declared a holiday on Thursday for all schools and Anganwadi centers up to Class 12. District Magistrate Ashish Bhatgai has ordered strict compliance with the directive, warning of stern action against non-compliance.
