Gandhinagar, Mar 22: Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Gujarat Assembly today following a Congress MLA's alleged “derogatory” remarks against Chief Minister Narendra Modi, which agitated BJP members, who later forced the Opposition legislator to tender an apology for it.

During the question hour today, while raising a question on the population of Asiatic Lions in Gir, Congress MLA from Manavadar Javahar Chavda made some comments on the role played by Modi in increasing the number of wild cats at the sanctuary.

Enraged over the remarks, BJP MLAs present in the House during the question hour, were on their feet in protest and vociferously demanded an apology from Chavda.

For few minutes proceedings of the House was stalled amid sloganeering and shouting by agitated ruling party members.

The Assembly Speaker Vajubhai Vala ordered those words to be removed from records of the House proceedings.

“These type of remarks are not acceptable as it is derogatory for the Chief Minister of this state and member should apologise for it,” demanded State Finance Minister Nitin Patel.

Expressing his displeasure towards Chavda, Assembly Speaker said, “the way those words were spoken, it was completely unacceptable and undignified for this House.”

“There is no such rule but to maintain an honourable tradition and to upheld the decency of the House a member should express regrets for his remarks,” said Vala.

Following this, the Congress MLA made a statement in the House expressing regrets for his comments.
